Position Title: ER/ICU Clinical Staff Supervisor (Tech Manager) 

Reports to: Nursing Director

Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral (BVER) is a specialty animal hospital located in Portland Oregon.  We are looking for a qualified Support Staff Supervisor to join our hospital. We offer specialty and emergency veterinary services and have veterinarians in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Urgent Care and Emergency and Critical Care.  

The Bridgetown Veterinary Support Staff Supervisor is a team-focused, passionate, and highly dependable mentor and leader that plays a vital role in daily workflows. As a supervisor, you will enable conversation, communication, and coordination among hospital team members and pet families. The supervisor leverages strong communication, collaboration, and planning skills to ensure the team is supported. You will support the team by facilitating meetings, managing the schedule, and maintaining team engagement and a positive supportive work environment.   

 

Job Type: Full Time 

Salary: 70,000-80,000

Work Location: It is essential for employees in this position to be physically present in the hospital to fulfill their job responsibilities effectively. 

Schedule: 4/10 hour shifts, or 5/8 hour shifts.  

Ideal schedule: Sunday-Wednesday/Thursday

Role Responsibilities:  

  • Communication and Collaboration   
  • Create staff schedules, ensuring that teams have appropriate coverage.  
  • Maintain professionalism and treat all team members throughout the organization and pet families with respect and kindness.  
  • Display agility in communication styles between team members, pet families and referring community to disseminate information and knowledge, closing the loop appropriately and professionally.   
  • Responsible for troubleshooting shift gaps and team member coverage.   
  • Create open, supportive, and effective relationships and environment with all team members by resolving any team conflict in the moment or no later than end of team’s shift to prevent discord while escalating concerns as needed.   
  • Maintain weekly contact with the Nursing Director to ensure open communication and escalation of any support recommendations or additional needs recommended by self or other team members, so requests can be addressed promptly.  
  • Adept at addressing challenges associated with managing a diverse team, requiring strong interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate tricky situations with tact and professionalism. 
  • Perform other duties or projects as requested. 

 

Administrative

  • Utilize When I Work to audit published and pending schedules – no later than 30 days ahead of time.   
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of team member disciplinary plans such as coaching conversations and verbal warnings.  
  • Work with the Hospital Administrator to enforce performance improvement plans.   
  • Work with the Nursing Director to troubleshoot any nursing care issues. 
  • Maintain and document client records and communication in accordance with organizational, state, and federal guidelines.  
  • Work with team coordinators to schedule monthly team meetings. 
  • Work with hiring manager to facilitate interviews and new hire communication. 
  • Audit and maintain job ads. 
  • Complete onboarding duties as assigned. 

 

Experience Required:  

  • A minimum of 3 years’ veterinary experience in ECC with a focus on team dynamics and day to day workflows. 
  • A minimum of 1 year leadership experience is required.  
  • A licensed veterinary technician is preferred.  

 

Physical Demands:  

  • Must possess the ability to speak, hear, and see clearly and regularly to ensure effective communication and situational awareness. 
  • Must be comfortable and capable of engaging in activities that involve prolonged periods of walking, standing, and sitting throughout the workday. 
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs, unassisted, and 75lbs. with assistance.  
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and some holidays
