Giving back

Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency + Referral (BVER) is passionate about giving back to the Portland community and beyond. Not only do we want to do the right thing within the walls of our hospital, but we are dedicated to partnering with organizations that help us give back. We are a proud partner with World Vets, The Humane Society, and the Make a Wish Foundation.

  • World Vets is an international veterinary aid organization with programs in over 45 countries on six continents. World Vets works to bring veterinary services to underserved areas by providing direct veterinary care to animals, disaster response services for major international disasters, veterinary training, and educational programs. Dr. Mahlum and Dr. Steele were both involved in the World Vets Galapagos project helping with the opening of the first veterinary hospital on the island of San Cristobal. They played an integral role in providing surgery services to the community members’ pets, each doing an average of 55 surgeries over three days. Dr. Mahlum has also worked in Romania, Tanzania, and Mauritius on behalf of World Vets.
  • The Humane Society is the United States’ most impactful animal protection organization. Their fight against abuse and neglect is something BVER is actively involved in within the Portland area and beyond. We are a proud and grateful sponsor of the Oregon Humane Society’s annual Doggie Dash providing first aid care to all the furry participants.
  • BVER is honored to provide continuing education to our local Veterinary Medical Associations in Oregon and Washington.
