Outpatient ultrasounds require a referral from your primary care veterinarian. Your primary care veterinarian will send over records and complete a referral form. Once this is reviewed by the imaging team, they will reach out to you to schedule an outpatient ultrasound for your pet. This appointment requires that your pet be fasted (no food) for 12 hours prior to the appointment time. This appointment will also require sedation for your pet to accommodate diagnostic imaging. If your pet has received oral sedatives prior to veterinary visits, please reach out to your primary care veterinarian prior to the appointment to acquire oral sedatives. During this appointment, you will not speak with a veterinarian. Your pet’s abdomen will be shaved, the ultrasound will be performed, and the final ultrasound report will be sent to your family veterinarian within 48 hours. If your pet requires immediate care based on the ultrasound results, you will be transferred to the emergency department where you will speak with an emergency veterinarian and further treatments and diagnostics will be discussed at this time.
